Seven Mile Hill hike
Wildflowers, oak and pine forests, and sweeping open vistas highlight the Gorge's beautiful transition zone between westside rain forest and eastside high desert.

The area stretching from the Memaloose Hills to The Dalles (often called the Rowena area) is a 4,875 acre area of public land noted for open oak-pine savanna landscapes and glorious wildflower displays in the spring. The Rowena Plateau offers colorful vistas: panoramic views of the grass and prairie lands; lush forests to the west; views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and the Columbia River.

Between February and June, Rowena hillsides are ablaze with continuously changing displays of wildflowers, including purple grass widows, blue camas lilies, pink onions and showy displays of purple lupine and yellow balsamroot.

Friends of the Columbia Gorge supports a vision for the Rowena Area that protects the magnificent landscape of the Rowena and offers increased recreation opportunities in the area.
