Document Actions
While the Columbia Gorge protects one of the most stunning natural landscapes in the nation, its air quality ranks as one of the most polluted among federally protected areas. Additional studies have shown that air pollution is contributing to acid rain in the Gorge, harming ecosystems, affecting Native American petroglyphs and threatening human health.

Friends is working hard to protect and enhance air quality in the Columbia Gorge. In 2005, we helped create a broad-based coalition called the Columbia Clean Air Alliance (CCAA) to advocate for improved air quality in the Gorge. The Coalition is comprised of more than 20 environmental and social responsibility groups whose combined membership exceeds 50,000. The CCAA works to keep public agencies focused on for protecting Gorge air quality.
