Archer Creek/Good Bear - Friends of the Forest Day • Nov 1, 2008
On November 1, the National Forest Foundation invites Friends of the Columbia Gorge and Friends of the Forest volunteers to help plant native hardwood trees at Archer Creek/Good Bear, a spawning area in southwest Washington near the Franz Lake Wildlife Refuge. The trees will help preserve and restore this valuable habitat for use by native Coho and other species.
Lunch will be provided by the Skamania Lodge [http://www.skamania.com/]. A guest fish biologist from the U.S. Forest Service will offer a presentation and answer questions regarding the fascinating life cycle of our beloved salmon.
Salmon are among the most valued, discussed, and honored species in the Northwest. But wild salmon are threatened by the widespread degradation of their sensitive spawning locations.
